UN SDG goal #4 calls for inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all. Critical to achieving these goals are open access sources that make verified information broadly available to all at no charge. One such organization is Wikipedia.
The largest and most-read reference work in history, Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia written and maintained by a community of volunteers through open collaboration. Consistently one of the 10 most popular websites in the world, it was founded by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger in January of 2001. It is hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation, an American nonprofit organization which relies on public contributions and grants to fund its mission. Support from readers is critical for ensuring the sustainability of this open access reference tool.
