Participants in IAC’s upcoming American Art Conference will enjoy an exclusive viewing of Heritage Auctions’ upcoming American Art sale featuring an exceptionally important work by Agnes Pelton, “Purple Star Icon,” an extraordinary example of Pelton’s transcendental abstractions. Conceived in 1936 and completed ca. 1939 – 1940, “Purple Star Icon” was known only through archival records until now and is one of only four such transcendental works to have come to auction since 1995.

On Friday afternoon of the conference, Erika Doss will consider Pelton in her presentation “Spiritual Moderns: 20th-Century American Artists and Religion.”

Conference attendees will also be guests of The American Art Fair’s Invitation-Only Gala Preview, and enjoy a private viewing and tour of the Grey Art Museum’s exhibition “American Artists in Paris, 1946 – 1962.”

The full agenda for the conference can be found here. You can register for the conference here.
